Flourish yoga offers a variety of different styles of yoga. Our focus is on making yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of their age, size, shape, level of fitness or level of flexibility. We like to think of ourselves as not elite in anyway. We’re a yoga studio for normal everyday people.
Our yoga styles:
Vinyasa yoga is an active style of yoga where the poses are linked together in time with your breathe. We include sun salutations, standing poses, seated poses and some core strengthening in our vinyasa classes. You’ll also work your arm muscles to support your body weight. Classes incorporate breathing exercises and guided meditation and relaxation. Vinyasa flow yoga is great for developing strength, flexibility and balance in your body and your mind.
The active poses allow you to build strength and flexibility, while focusing on the sensations within your body. You switch off from the past and the future and lose yourself in the present moment. You will feel physically strong yet mentally relaxed.
Our vinyasa classes are open to beginners, as well as more experienced students.
We offer 8 week beginners yoga courses. These courses provide an introduction to both vinyasa flow and yin yoga for complete beginners. It doesn’t matter if you can’t touch your toes or if you’re not the yoga type. Our aim is to make yoga less intimidating. The teacher will take you through things step by step, so you get the basics right and learn to adapt poses for your own body.
You will explore your own body and mind through movement, relaxation and meditation. The course provides a slow and steady introduction to key poses and sequences of yoga with time to stop, ask questions and work on alignment and techniques.
Our prenatal yoga classes ease the discomforts of pregnancy, improve your sleep and prepare you for labour.
Our prenatal yoga classes are designed for women in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy (although women in the first trimester are most welcome to attend). We focus on exercising safely during pregnancy while also preparing your body and mind for the birth of your baby and beyond. The classes also provide an opportunity to meet and connect with other women.
Many of the discomforts of pregnancy can be reduced by continued gentle movement and relaxation of key areas. Through guided movement and relaxation, you will increase your awareness of your pelvic, back and deep core muscles, working to strengthen and open your body in preparation for birth.
Our prenatal yoga classes include flowing sequences of poses, breath work, meditation, mindfulness and relaxation. Classes are kept small, with a maximum of 12 women per class.
We hope that the yoga and mindfulness techniques will help you throughout your pregnancy and labour, whatever your birth plan might be.
Yin & Restore Yoga:
Our Yin & Restore classes combine the long, slow stretches of yin yoga with the comfort and relaxation of restorative yoga.
Yin yoga is a mindful practice of long, slow and deep poses to release tension in your body and mind.
Restorative yoga is about comfort rather than effort. It’s a very relaxing style where stretching and alignment come from slow release of muscular tension through calming the body and the mind. Using cushions and blankets to support your body, you allow gravity to do its work and slowly lengthen your spine in a comfortable and effortless stretch.
