Mindfulness and meditation can help us live more fully, reduce stress levels and foster qualities of empathy, acceptance, patience and tolerance. Flourish Yoga’s meditation classes are influenced by Buddhist and Yoga philosophies however they are non-religious and non-sectarian.
Meditation is a way of achieving a state of calm awareness of body and mind. Whether you do this through yoga, meditation or both, the approach is the same – learning to focus on the breath, noticing the fluctuations of the mind and experiencing moments, maybe even increasing moments, of being in the present. You might find that a regular, formal practice on a mat, cushion or chair may begin to extend to an informal practice off the mat and into your daily life as you go about your routines and interact with others at work and home.
For a lot of people, meditation seems a bit too abstract. We make it simple and practical. Over 8 weeks, you’ll explore a range of different meditation and mindfulness techniques so you can find one that works for you.
We’ll also answer some of the most common questions about meditation including:
- how do I know if I’m meditating?
- do I have to sit down to meditate?
- how long should I meditate for?
- how do I empty my mind?
