Meditation and Mindfulness
What is meditation?
Meditation is a way of achieving a state of calm awareness of body and mind. Whether you do this through yoga, meditation or both, the approach is the same – learning to focus on the breath, noticing the fluctuations of the mind and experiencing moments, maybe even increasing moments, of being in the present.
Mindfulness and meditation can help us live more fully, reduce stress levels and foster qualities of empathy, acceptance, patience and tolerance. Flourish Yoga’s meditation classes are influenced by Buddhist and Yoga philosophies however they are non-religious and non-sectarian.
You might find that a regular, formal practice on a mat, cushion or chair may begin to extend to an informal practice off the mat and into your daily life as you go about your routines and interact with others at work and home.
Our meditation and mindfulness courses
What to expect:
Our meditation and mindfulness workshop addresses some of the common challenges to starting meditation. For a lot of people, meditation seems a bit too abstract.
This course will break it down into simple steps. You’ll learn over 5 different techniques so you can find one that works for you.
Techniques covered will include:
- Meditation on the breath
- Mantra meditation (focusing on sounds)
- Walking meditation
- Mindfulness meditation
- Visual meditation (focusing on something you can see)
- Yoga Nidra (withdrawing the senses and scanning sensations in the body)
We’ll also answer some of the most common questions about meditation including:
– how do I know if I’m meditating?
– do I have to sit down to meditate?
– how long should I meditate for?
– how do I empty my mind?
We run meditation and mindfulness workshops throughout the year, and also offer on-site workshops and courses for businesses. For more information, email: firstname.lastname@example.org
